Hybrid optimization method
A hybrid quantum-classical optimization method was developed for the Airline Crew Pairing problem, in which quantum and classical systems cooperate within the same optimization pipeline. The approach shows long-term promise, while current quantum hardware still limits the size of problems that can be solved.

Our study examines 90 international public transport cases that investigated, planned, or announced the use of quantum computing or a quantum-inspired solver; 12 of them are validated in a real-world setting. It shows what benchmarks against classical solvers reveal, and what can be applied in Hungary.

The minimum Birkhoff decomposition problem is NP-hard and arises, among other fields, in data center and satellite switch scheduling. Our new method, RCS, gives exact decompositions for all 375 instances of the Quantum Optimization Benchmarking Library, proves 197 of them optimal, and never gives a longer decomposition than the best exact one previously submitted to the library.
